Looking at the OP's link, it seems that I have enough memory for what I do, even using Vista.

Typical gaming session for me:

World of Warcraft
Winamp
Firefox w/ several windows open (usually 5+)
Xfire w/ several windows open
Aim
Windows Vista SP1

In game, I run @ 1280x1024 4xAA, maximum everything. Maximum memory usage is 1.2gb-1.35gb. If I do the same in Grid or Devil May Cry 4, my memory usage is only a little higher, maybe 1.5gb tops. Seems to me that the only game I "need" more then 2gb in is Crysis, which I don't even own. This makes me very happy since I don't want to put any more money into this box. Gotta start thinking about the next system

Typical, you guys.. its took two pages to get to the subject.. it depends on what you use your computer for..
That is teh key point of it all really when it comes down to it.

I have a x64 ultimate and when Im doing some work my 4 gig's reads at 97% and thats only editing up a few reasonable sized photos, (4x3MB) running PS CS2 maybe a ferrwwindows open as well and one or two applications.

It certainly wont hurt to have 8 gigabytes of memory but it could hurt if you sit there with 2 gigs.. Vista is a lot hungery and I was just getting by with 2 gigs on XP x64.

In general 4 Gigabytes is OK. you will run it out with somethings, but most things would be fine, 8 gigs should fit everything in that you need.

But above all, if you want a system to fly, it should have a quad array drive set up and very high speed ram ( which normally means testing and manually setting it up) and of course a good motherboard so that it all works(faster).
sorry supreet i can't agree with that. "for another couple of years"? lol good luck I would go insane if I went back to 2GB....heh thats the same thing I said going from 1GB to 2GB.....and from 512MB to 1GB stick....and well u get the picture...

I still remember my first custom build PC AMD althon 3200+ 256MB PNY (which I think i later added another 256MB stick after a month. started playing Unrealtournament, Diablo II, starcraft, and Max payne...wow those were good days.

Well believe me on that, I certainly don't need another 2GBs for time being, I think 2GB is sufficient for me, I understand many users would've different preference, needs etc. I don't play much games on my computer anymore, and mostly use Windows XP Professional w/SP2 x86. I don't even boot to Windows Vista, its been like 3 weeks already !!
2GB? no, at least for vista standards. I've ran both 2GB and now 4GB systems and it makes a world of a difference.

for now I think 4GB is the pinnical of where you need to be at. I'd try to find a Dual-Core in the 3.0ghz range @ least. Or a quad to go with it
