I've had decent results with AVI2DVD
How about after being authored by a crappy expensive program?

lol

Iwould have to assume the results would be the same!! (though it might take you longer to get there, and you may suffer intermediate hair-loss in the process!!)

Once the DVD has been authored (even on a crappy free program) it should work fine.

However, the issue may lie with the fact that you're using DVD-RW media. Not all players support RW disks (though most new ones do).

If you still have the project cut&edited, try to author it again using a different program to generate the .von files etc, and maybe the built in windows movie maker to create the menu's etc (very simple, does look crap - but works, and try it again.

Second to that, try using DVD-R disks, then +R, a simple media change may solve your issue.

Freeware Media Coder should also handle your transcoding requirement.

http://majorgeeks.com/MediaCoder_d4987.html
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

You'll find that after transcoding, the target output files can end up being much smaller or much larger than the original source files.
Carl,

If you have an AVI, you can get a program such as Nero (http://www.nero.com/enu/nero8-features.html) or Cyberlink Power Producer (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_3_ENU.html). These will allow you to import video files (from your drive or camera), and burn these videos in DVD format so that you can play them in any DVD player. Don't limit yourself to these programs, I'm sure there are tons more but I recommend them because I have had good results. You can even create your own DVD menus with interactions, background pictures, sounds, videos etc.
