Had the same problem. Fixed it yesterday.
1. Go to gameseeker.co.cc
2.click on crack then bioshock by choosing "B"
3. then dl the 1.1 exe file and replace it over ur old one.

am running the game on vista on full settings without any problems now before 1.0 crashed at second level and 1.1 crashed at start. now its running like a dream.
THE bioshock crash fix is here for others as well who had the same problem.
There are a bunch of support threads there, including a troubleshooting guide.

I don't what exactly to say but every time i run the game, the very first place where you enter into the under water lift,,the game crashes to desktop. I downloaded the latest driver for my card. Also downloaded 1.1 version patch that can't fix the problem but it crashes before the game even loads. Any one know how to deal with it?
