Yesterday the iPhone was launched here in NZ and whoa, the prices are so stupid. Vodafone is ripping us kiwis off!

Standalone, the phone is $979.00 Yes you read that right.

Or,

You can pick it up for $199 which sounds great, but your MONTHLY bill for the phone is $250 for a 24 month contract. So, by the end of it, you have dished out $6199.

The plan includes:

Inclusive Minutes 600 national anytime minutes each month
Included TXTs Send up to 600 TXTs per month to any NZ mobile (from within New Zealand)
Included data 1GB per month
Additional usage
Per minute $0.53
Per TXT $0.20
Per MB $0.03

Great timing, especially considering the iPhone 3G (finally support's AT&T's faster 3G network) launched today.

Edit apparently they were having issues activating the phones as well. And old iPhone (hardware 1.0) users upgrading to 2.0 software had to reactivate their phones today.

They are launching so called "MobileMe", which intergrates the lastest iPhone email service to their existing email service. Appearantly went into trouble, and letting some of their customer without emails for more than 24 hours!
