Hi guys

I appreciate people have their differences. But I suggest you discuss school Physics via email rather than on this forum. I'm finding it hard to filter that stuff out and find useful info.

Update:
I've tried to roll back the version of Catalyst to 3.1 as suggested by tech support. But once I uninstall 4.7, I can't get 3.1 on. It wants me to install some kind of standard video driver but i can't find one!!

So I'm now using the CD that came with the card.. Catalyst 4.0. Same problems as always... :S

Micheal H:

There are some nice cooling solutions that work on SOME cards (generally, as long as they match the reference design). I'm going to buy an Artic Cooling revision 3 VGA cooler if it fits on my card (Powercolour 9800 Pro). It's cheap, effective and much quieter than the basic fan you usually get on a graphics card.

Check it out here:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Other_...rs_57.html

They have several other graphics card cooling solutions, including some silent ones (which are a bit pricey, as you'd expect). They all have the caveat about compatibility, though, so I advise checking explicitly that they will fit your particular card. I'm sure you could buy them elsewhere if that shop isn't convenient for you.

This forum isn't usually argumentative. It's just a clash between myself and James Miller, probably done with now.

Ali Jawad:

One of the reasons why this issue is such a problem seems to be that it has many causes. It may be that it's more common with VIA chipsets, which I suggested as a possible line of enquiry because it may illuminate one specific cause, probably the AGP miniport driver in the VIA motherboard drivers. It clearly isn't a problem with the KT400 chipset, since many people are using that without any trouble. Hmm...unless there are several revisions of it and one is flawed...no, I don't think it's that. People with various motherboard chipsets are getting this problem, including some people who have changed motherboards in an attempt to locate the problem.

Marc Verheyden:

I love "I make you feel good so I can sleep at work."! A very good plan for life

I'm using a VIA chipset (KT600, though) and I initially had this problem with my 9600 Pro card, but in my case it was a driver issue, fixed when Cat3.10 came out. I later upgraded to a 9800 Pro (you can get some good prices on those now).

There are some peltier coolers design for the computer system now but yeah they will condensate. But if you keep like 1 fan in the front going and 1-2 in the back going it should keep the humidity in the case down even when using them. I wish i could use them but since I have had some minor hardware problems like this with mine I just figure I'll leave it be instead of chanceing my computer condesating and shorting out. Beings as I also have 2 cpu's instead of one I would need 2 of them just for that and then 1 for the video card.

And that line thats at the bottom of all my messages is jsut a quote, its not what i type everytime. Its just something i found years ago as a quit message on irc.
Well it seem's as thou this forum a site for augumentive folk's lol. We all here to help each other I think. Or to be helped.

This main problem with these graphic's cards, no one seems to have a soloution that sort's them all out.

As you can tell I am still having problem's with mine argggggggggg .

Broke a cooling fan messing with attempts to cool the GPU down, now the cards running 10 to 15 degrees hotter than ever before, and for some reason I am no longer able to alter the AGP speeds, XP say's its off . and will not allow me to alter anything now. Its set up as 8X in the BIOS.

Anyhow, as anyone got any idea's for alternative cooling systems, have given up with fan's they just don't move enough cold air around the graphic cards heatsink. Have looked intot the idea of using Peltier cooling device's (thermoelectric cooling, somert like that), but due to the way these work, it will result in condensation within the computer, but the cooling effect will knock the temp right down to zero great for overclocking I bet.
Mate, I really hope that you are not working in customer service James. Your veiws are good untill they don't work, I could have bort a new M/B for cost of that PSU. Peter, the VAI chipset I think has a link as I have one that fails badly, only works on 4 X
Hey all, I glanced at the last few posts and one person mentioned that the problem may be with the VIA KT400 chipset. I do not believe that that is the case as I own a board with the KT400 chipset and have not experienced this problem.

One thing though, is there a difference between the 9600 Pro and the 9600 Pro All-In-Wonder models? I have the All-In-Wonder version and all is well on my system.
pci express based on 9600xt? radeon cards as of yet don't use the pci express ... and yeah that problem has been address in other forums before this one.. specially in the 9800xt forum and a few other graphics card posts and video problems.. it depends.. i know alot of people have problems with asus, or abit or one of the 2 with the graphics card, tyan boards, and alot of them.. Theres to wide of range to start making a guess if its the via driver or not... Most of the boards i've seen go bad with this card use a amd chipest not the via.. because before i fixed mine i tried it on a via chipset and it worked fine.. so theres just to wide of range of boards and configurations to rule that as being the cause.

And dickhead.. keep quoting me.. cuz no one cares..... and if you don't stop im just gonna start copying everything you say and pasting back in the forum.. because frankly if you can use up space like that so can i. Least i come on here to help dick head.

Alistair Kennedy's experience might provide a line of thought worth investigating...is this problem more common amongst people using VIA chipsets? VIA chipsets for SocketA? A specific version of VIA's motherboard drivers? Perhaps there's a conflict there...graphics card driver and AGP miniport driver, perhaps? I've seen people using nForce-based boards posting with the same problem, though.

Has anyone had this problem with a Socket754,939,940 or 775 board? The PCI Express cards based on
the Radeon9600XT?

James Miller:

I didn't have to look those things up, since I have a basic knowledge of electronics. I was quoting sources for you to check, since you don't. I do these odd things, like supporting any argument I am making with verifiable sources. Perhaps I should have realised that you wouldn't understand that concept, since you never do it yourself.

If nothing used more than 8W on the 12V line, there wouldn't be a problem with any modern PSU. (That's 0.75A on the 12V line). Do you really think that a modern graphics card draws so little power? Do you want me to tell you what's powered from the 12V line and give rough guides to power consumption on the 12V line, per component and total? Graphics cards alone take up to 5A on the 12V line directly from the PSU. There's 60W. Granted, that's the worst case - a Radeon 9800XT takes 2.2A. That's direct from the PSU, not taking into account any draw from the PSU on the 12V line used to power the AGP slot via voltage conversion on the motherboard. The biggest draw on the 12V line from a single component is the CPU (unless you are using Pentium3 or older). A 2.8GHz Northwood P4 draws 10.12A on the 12V line, according to Intel's specs. There's 121.44W. The Prescott version requires more. I think those figures are a bit on the high side - I'd say it's more like 90W for Northwood and 100W for Prescott - but it's a damn sight more than 8W. Why do you think the ATX12 connector was added to the ATX PSU standard?

I didn't requote you, I requoted myself in response to your repeated and completely inaccurate statement about what I had written.

You do "personal have an gain" (now I am quoting you) by learning a very basic concept of electronics - you have gained relevant knowledge. Some people consider knowledge important, though I am sure you are not one of them. Since I made the initial clarification of the relationship between electrical power, current and potential difference in reply to someone else, I never intended you to gain anything. It would be more useful for you to gain a reasonable level of ability in English first. If it's your third language, you have a decent level of competence with it.

I initially thought you were lying as part of an ad hominem attack because I challenged your "one solution fits all" approach.. Having read your "replies" to me and seen how they have no relevance to the posts you intend them to reply to, I now think you are as ignorant and semiliterate as you appear to be.

Feel free to continue this argument, but I will restrict myself to correcting any inaccurate statements you make about what I have written. This slanging match might be entertaining to some people here, but it probably just annoys most people here. Besides, I feel silly arguing so far below my level.

Asus A7V600-X
Athlon XP 3200+
512 PC3200
Powercolor Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
Crappy Q-Tec 350 watt PSU

Well I bought a replacement PSU - A Tagan 480 beast. It was an upgrade I was hoping to make anyway. Still the problem continued no matter what I tried. I tweaked the memory both up and down. I tried both a Corsair stick and a Elixir one. No change. Did a second full re-install. I both over and under-clocked my cpu. I under and overclocked my GPU. I turned on and off fast writes, VPU recovery and any other feature that has been mentioned here. But the more I read these posts the more I began to see the common feature that many of those who genuinely had a problem had. It was the VIA KT400.

I bought myself an ASUS NForce 2 A7N8X and my computer is now running like a rig with these specs should. Furthermore my memory bandwidth and general performance is considerably higher than with the KT400 board.

My problem is solved and I urge those of you who can afford it to put down your KT400 chipsets forget that they ever were produced and move on.....

Good luck.

Peter Howardson: ok so a total draw from it would be yeah 240 watts or whatever you said. but heres one thing.. nothing in the computer draws that much power... only say .5- to maybe 8 watts per device for 12 volts.. thats just the total available to use..

I just don't know what point you were trying to get accross...

And requoting me isn't doing anything.. as you notice after you posted, no one responded to yours.. they went right over it. So keep on talking bout something people don't care about. We all know a new psu helps when its pegged for power. I don't know what else you could tell everyone that could be beneficial to them..

I personal don't have an gain in knowing that 20amps of power is the equivalant of 240 watts of 12 votls.. wow... now everything is gonna work cuz i know this.. NOT... so just shut up dude.. christ...

The simple fact you had to look up that stuff and post it means you have no life, way to much time on your hands... and are retarded cuz your trying to argue on the net.. way to go.. everyone cheer him on1

And has anyone else had success with the hydravision theory.?
