After a reasonable period, (possibly letting the CPU cool down), I plug in the monitor and wait till I get on the screen &quot;no signal&quot;. Then I plug in the computer and start. It goes directly to that error message. Then I click on F10 and click YES. After that the computer starts its startup routine with no difficulty.<br /> <br /> b) I have been told that the INTEL PEMTIUM CPU is guaranteed for life. Will INTEL replace my CPU? I dont have to hide anything here. So the diagnosis of a misplaced fan block may be true, and in fact would appear to now be correct. <br /> <br /> And as for the first post in the series, the clue is that you let the kids play Scooby Doo on the PC for their birthday. My money is on the theory that they had an emotional computer experience as all young kids do and had a bit of a spat and jumped around and knocked the computer (hard), slightly displacing the fan. <br /> <br /> However, in that case, the chip eventually fried through lack of repositioning the fan. The kids never came clean. You need to teach your kids to be more honest.<br /> <br /> Anyway Brenton, thanks for the advice. After a few reboots and a quick CD burn of all vital work and settings files, I think the PC has finally gone. I think I was allowed to access my PC and files about 6 times. After opening up the box and watching the PC boot up, I can see that the video card, sound card and CD drives are functioning normally. I think the problem is therefore one of three things. <br /> <br /> (a) CPU is overheating because of bad voltages from the motherboard. Once the CPU gets too hot, it simply shuts down to avoid damage (?)<br /> (b) The CPU is on its way out and is not operating at the right speed at which it is intended to operate, hence the error.<br /> (c) The Hard Disk could be causing problems, but my suspicion is that this is less likely.<br /> <br /> I guess that maybe by this time, you have fixed your problem and discovered is source. And the problem persisted. The only thing I never replaced is the HD. The soundcard I had on the other MOBO was and PCI one. My conclusion was that it was most likely my HD causing the problems but as I said there was no problem with any of the tests I performed on it. Windows XP told me a crash had occurred. I sent the error report to MS and I got a report back saying that it was a memory problem. So I checked the memory again with a tool they (MS) recommended. Did 11 tests 3 times and it was all OK.<br /> <br /> I'm sort of at a loss here. My computer used to only crash to the desktop or to a reset during 3d games. But now it will even crash from the desktop to a full reset. Even when I'm doing absolutely nothing at all!<br /> <br /> There's no notice of anything when it crashes BTW it just does without giving a warning before or reason after the crash. My computer just acts like nothing happened. Also, I'd try putting in different memory if you have it and just see if anything happens. They were able to take disk out and they turned computer off. I came home and attempted to investigate problem. I shut down the computer. Now we do not get any image on the monitor. I tried rebooting with windows XP boot disk and nothing happens.
